Next May, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute will have as its theme “Punk: Chaos to Couture,” highlighting the origins of the punk movement and draw connections to haute couture and ready-to-wear creations that it has inspired over the past three decades. Costume Institute curator Andrew Bulton stated, “Punk broke all rules when it came to fashion, and everything became possible after punk… It’s impact on high fashion became so enormous, and continues at the same time.”
Such exciting news! The show will be inaugurated on May 6th, and open to the public from May 9th-August 11th. The benefit gala is scheduled to take place at the museum with Rooney Mara, Riccardo Tisci, Lauren Santo Domingo and Anna Wintour will serve as cochairs. Photographer Nick Knight will serve as a creative consultant and will help devise the exhibit and gala’s overall look.
